WINNING POEMS AGE 11 & UNDER CATEGORY:

MOST PROMISING POET:
SELENA BHARATH (Age 7)

SELENA’S POEM:

LIFE AS A BUTTERFLY

A lonely little egg,
Is now about to shell.
The caterpillar has six legs,
So it never ever fell.

She has many different colours,
As beautiful as flowers.
When she goes into her pupa,
Something happens SUPER!
Out she comes, a beautiful butterfly,
And she flies in the sky.

She’s hungry, so she goes to a flower,
To have some sweet nectar.
She uses her tongue,
That is very very long.
It looks like a straw,
She sucks up nectar more and more.

Then she leaves the flower,
An flies for and hour.
Bye-bye! Cute butterfly, bye-bye.

POET OF MERIT:

SARAH MOHAMMED (Age 10)

SARAH’S WINNING POEM:

LEGENDARY LARA

“Another six!” cheered the crowd,
As the ball soared in the air,
Brian Lara had done it again,
Breaking four records for the year.

He took off his helmet and kissed the ground,
Full of enormous pride,
The West Indies had won the match,
By working side by side.

Lara was named “Man-of-the-Match”,
And praised for his success,
Brian smiled and turned and said:
“I just tried my best!”

A motivator and leader,
A legend among us all,
Who created history countless times,
By playing “bat and ball”.

He achieved the impossible,
Just by following his dream,
Inspiring all the youths in our nation,
To work together as a team.
